Use of anchors when installing windows and doors
The usual location of anchors around the perimeter of the window or door frame is shown in the drawing below. If it is not possible to provide anchoring at the specified distances (e.g. due to the fitting of roller shutters, lintels, etc.), it is necessary to provide sufficient reinforcement of the relevant part of the frame. The same rules should be followed when joining windows and doors into assemblies. If possible, it is not recommended to drill through the window frame at the bottom, which serves to drain rainwater away from the structure. If this cannot be ensured, it is recommended that the head of the screw used be thoroughly sealed to prevent leakage into the profile. When anchoring, it is always necessary to take into account the suitability of the perimeter wall material, the depth of the drilling, the screw diameter, the distance from the wall edge, the free length of the screw (width of the connection joint = gap between the window frame and the wall).
Picture of window anchoring according to ČSN 746077:
A - anchor spacing: metal window max. 800mm | wooden window max. 800mm | plastic window max. 700mm
E - distance from the inner corner of the frame, mullion or partition: approx. 150mm | approx. 250mm for PVC tinted windows
Supporting pads
The installation of windows and patio doors must ensure that the forces in their plane are transmitted in such a way that no deformations occur in them which would endanger their stability and cause them to break. Supporting pads shall be placed on the horizontal part (sill plane) and under the vertical elements of the frames. The washers must be positioned so that they are only loaded by the compressive force. The support pads shall be made of a material capable of supporting the weight of the windows over a long period of time, and shall be non-absorbent and chemically neutral with adjacent materials.
Tension washers
Tension washers are used in vertical joints (connection joints) to prevent frame deformation when opening window and door sashes. The material used is the same as for the support washers (these are the same washers). The supporting and defining washers must be positioned to allow the frame to expand! The recommended placement scheme for the support and boundary washers is shown in the figure below.
